Why can't my building product be auto-filled with transport?

Work out why Auto-fill missing skips a building product, and what to do instead.

Auto-fill takes transport from two places only: another row in the project with exactly the same building product, or the building product’s standard transport in the library. If neither exists, the line stays Missing and the transport has to be entered manually.

After an import: validate against the library first

Section titled “After an import: validate against the library first”

When you import a project from elsewhere, its building products are locked to the owner, GUID and version that were in the file. The standard transport is only pulled in if exactly that identity also exists in a library the project is allowed to see, and that row has a standard transport. If the identity does not match, there is no source to auto-fill from, and the whole list stays Missing.

Fix that in the building model before you go to Transport:

  1. Go to Building model, open the View menu, and check that Validate against library is on. It is on by default, but the choice is remembered per browser, so it may have been left off.
  2. If any building products have data that differs from the library, the button Update all from the library (N) appears at the top of the page. Click it and confirm. Local changes on those elements are overwritten.
  3. If some building products have a newer version in the library, Upgrade to the newest version (N) sits in the menu next to it. That is the action that moves the version itself, and therefore the one that can bring a building product onto the library row that carries the standard transport.
  4. A few building products have to be fixed one by one afterwards, typically the ones with a broken library link.
  5. Then go to Transport and click Auto-fill missing (N)…. Every building product that now matches a library row with a standard transport gets its value, and you fill in the rest manually.

Both buttons only appear when there is something to do, and only while Validate against library is on. See Building model for the rest of the View menu and the library status in the tree.

You are on the Transport page in the building product table and have clicked Auto-fill missing (N)…. The dialog splits the rows into three groups, and the group No source: not filled in gives a short reason for each row.

What you seeWhat it meansHow to move on
“no sibling row or library standard”No other row in the project has the same building product in a form that can be copied, and the library row has no standard transportIf the project came from an import, validate against the library first, see above. Otherwise enter the transport manually, or set a standard transport on the building product in the library
“the library standard cannot be used in this calculation mode”The library row points at a standard transport, but it is not linked to the project’s calculation mode, or the pinned version has been withdrawnEnter the transport manually. If you can edit the library, change the Transport (A4) field to a standard transport that exists in the project’s calculation mode
The warning that the standard is “defined in a library that is unpublished or belongs to another organization”The standard exists, but in a library the project is not allowed to seePublish the library and run auto-fill again. If the library belongs to another organization, enter the transport manually
The building product is not in the dialog at all, and the line is marked Not countedThe line is not part of the calculation, so auto-fill leaves it aloneNothing to do, unless the line should count. See below
The building product has the status ConfiguredAuto-fill only fills rows with the status Missing, and never overwritesEdit the row directly, or click Restore if it shows the badge “Deviates from the library default”

A sibling row is another row in the project with the same building product, that is the same owner, GUID and version. It can only be used as a source if it is itself fully configured and uses the method Detailed or Standard. If the only other row is set to Own A4, there is no transport line to copy.

If you created the building product inside the project instead of taking it from the library, it has no library identity. Then neither the sibling lookup nor the library lookup can find anything, and the transport has to be entered manually every time. You can change that, so the building product gets a permanent standard transport:

  1. Find the building product in the building-model tree, open its action menu and choose Copy to the library. Pick a library you can edit. The action is blocked if the building product sits inside a locked construction.
  2. The project’s own row is linked to the new library product and locked at the same time, so it now has an identity to look up.
  3. Open the building product in the library and set the Transport (A4) field under Attached modules. The target must be a product of the Transport standard type, and it must sit in an official library or in your organization’s own. A personal library cannot be used as the target.
  4. If the library is not published, publish it. An unpublished library is invisible to projects, including your own, and the standard transport cannot be pulled from it.

After that, Auto-fill missing finds the standard transport, both here and in future projects that use the building product. See also How to copy from a project up into your library, which describes the same action for a whole construction.

When the building product has no A4 of its own

Section titled “When the building product has no A4 of its own”

If the Value column says The product has no A4, the building product is missing the A4 stage that the Own A4 method builds on. The line therefore counts as Missing even though a method is selected, and it contributes zero transport. Choose Detailed or Standard instead.

The badge Not counted means the building product is either overridden by the default values for technical installations, or deselected in the building model. The setup is preserved, but the line has no effect on the result, so auto-fill skips it deliberately. If it should count, those are the two places to change it: the exclusion in the building model, see How to exclude something from the calculation, or the default-value line under Building and operation.
