Locked data: what it means that a construction comes from a library
A construction brought into a project from a library is locked by default. The app shows it directly on the construction: “Locked: from library. Unlock to edit.”
The lock is inherited downwards
Section titled “The lock is inherited downwards”The lock does not sit only on the construction itself. It locks down through the elements inside the construction, so a building product inside a locked construction cannot be edited, and a service life from a locked element cannot be changed either. The app shows this clearly with the message “Service life cannot be changed, parent is locked.”
The same applies in the other direction. If a building product is to be copied onwards into your own library, a locked parent construction also blocks that: “Cannot be copied, the building product sits in a locked construction.”
The lock exists so that a library’s content stays identical to the source, no matter how many projects use it. Without it, a change in one project could diverge from the library, and the project would in reality no longer be using library data, just something that resembled it at import time.
Unlocking
Section titled “Unlocking”A locked construction or building product can be unlocked, after which it can be edited freely in the project, but it simultaneously loses its link to the library version: changes in the library no longer update it automatically.
