Build the building model, your first building element

Purpose

Add your first construction to the building model, so you have something to attach building products to.

Prerequisites

You’ve filled in Building and operation and a classification has been chosen. Click Building model in the project menu.

Steps

The building model is shown as a tree, structured according to the classification you chose. Each category starts empty.

1. Find the category the construction belongs to (e.g. an exterior wall or a floor slab), and expand it down to an empty sub-category with no constructions.
2. The category shows a card with the text “The category is empty”. Click one of the two buttons:
   • Create construction: build a brand new construction from scratch.
   • Insert from library: fetch a ready-made construction from the official library, your organization’s library, or your personal library.
3. If you choose Insert from library: search for the construction, select it, and confirm.
4. If you choose Create construction: give it a name, a unit, and optionally a description.
5. Set a quantity for the construction (e.g. m² of exterior wall) and a lifespan, if it doesn’t already come with one from the library.

Locked from library

Constructions you insert from the library start out locked: you can see them, but not edit their structure, until you unlock them. That also applies to inherited lifespan and the include-in-calculation checkbox. If you need to adapt a construction in the library to your project, unlock it first.

Result

Your building model now has at least one construction. It’s still empty of building products though: that’s the next step.
