Generic data vs. specific EPDs
The difference between generic average data and specific, manufacturer-based EPDs, and when to use which.
Generic data represents a type of building product or an industry. It can be used when the specific manufacturer or product has not been selected, or when no suitable EPD exists. LCAbyg’s library contains generic products that can be used for estimates and modelling.
A specific EPD describes a particular product from a particular manufacturer. It is the best choice when the product in the project matches the EPD in terms of product, declared unit and use. Do not use an EPD just because it resembles the selected product if its properties or declared unit are different.
What should you choose?

The important thing is that the data matches the product being modelled. A specific EPD is therefore not automatically better than generic data if it describes a different product or use.
