Add building products to a building element

Purpose

Add a building product to the construction you created, so the construction contains a building product.

Prerequisites

You’ve added a construction in the building model.

Steps

1. Find the construction in the building model tree, and open its row menu.
2. Choose Insert from library or Create building product.
3. If you choose Insert from library: search the library for the product you need (e.g. a specific type of insulation or a concrete product), select it and confirm.
4. Set the quantity, lifespan and unit of the product in the construction (e.g. thickness or kg per m²).

How to choose the right building product

• If a specific EPD (environmental product declaration) exists for the exact product, use it. It’s more accurate than a generic value.

• If no specific EPD exists, a generic value can be used.

• If a product has been withdrawn by the supplier, the library flags it with a “withdrawn” icon.

  Choose a different product or a generic replacement instead.

• The building product must have been valid (by date) at the time it is built into the building.

Result

The construction now has at least one building product with a quantity and a lifespan, and contributes to the project’s climate impact.
