How to choose an EPD when there's no Danish one

Purpose

Choose a sensible alternative when your building product has no Danish EPD.

Prerequisites

You’re searching the library for a building product, and find no Danish EPD for the exact product.

Steps

1. Broaden your search: if a foreign EPD exists for the same or an equivalent product from the same manufacturer, use it. It’s still more accurate than a generic value.
2. If neither a Danish nor a foreign EPD exists, use a generic value as a conservative estimate, see When should you use a generic value instead of a specific EPD?.
3. If the documentation is critical (e.g. for conformity check), note in the project’s description which source was used and why.

Result

The building product has a data basis, less accurate than a Danish EPD, but better than leaving the building product out entirely.
